Welcome to Design and Engineering 1!
In this course, you can expect to explore and strengthen your understanding of the way things work. Through a guided exploration, you will gain knowledge or proper tool use and construction procedures. Research and experimentation with basic machine and design principles will further develop your building skills, your understanding of engineering applications, your problem-solving strategies, and basic architectural graphic applications.
The classroom format will revolve around design challenges in which individuals and teams are asked to solve various engineering and architectural dilemmas. Areas of exploration include the study of simple machines and mechanisms; various structural problems; architectural design problems; and investigations into various materials as applied to modern society. The history of technology and engineering/architecture, especially as it relates to society, is also explored throughout the curriculum.
A Little bit about me:
I graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College with an Associate Degree in Architectural Technology and from Temple University with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Architecture. I spent 3 years working at an architectural firm working on renovation projects in real estate and religious structures. I then spent 3 years in the construction industry working as a manager in a Pre-cast division specializing in cast stone and various concrete products. Also spent 6 months working in road construction as a manager learning the ways of hot mix asphalt.
After being laid off, I found myself becoming a teacher through Delaware’s Alternate routes to certification program and I bring to the table my diverse experience to enhance the classroom environment. I am now entering my 2nd year at William Penn and this will be the first year implementing the new curriculum Mr. English and I wrote last year. Personally, I enjoy doing outdoor activities and spending time with my little boy!
